Every month, we put one colleague in the spotlight. This time, that's Sanne Schuurman, responsible for facilities, payroll and the administrative side of HR at Embrace. With many different responsibilities, a keen eye for processes and a passion for being outside, she knows how to perfectly combine work and private life.
With your hands in the earth
Sanne likes to work in her vegetable garden. She enjoys growing vegetables, picking fruit or cooking with the ingredients from her garden. “I love being outside,” she says. In addition to gardening, boating is a great passion. By boat, she and her family discover new places, from the Frisian lakes, the canals of Groningen to the mudflats. “That variety of nature and the city makes it perfect for me.”

From three hundred applicants to the job
When Sanne joined Embrace, it was an exciting time. There were no less than three hundred applicants for her position. “I thought: at least this is an opportunity to do something, even a little bit for lack of better.” What started as a broad role, from facility tasks to finance, grew into a package that increasingly showed its strength: setting up, structuring and improving processes.
All-rounder behind the scenes
Nowadays, Sanne has a versatile range of tasks. She is responsible for the facilities side of the organization: offices, fleet, renovations and removals. In addition, she takes care of payroll administration and manages the administrative side of HR. “It's the variety that makes it fun,” she explains. She proudly looks back on projects such as the renovations and removals of the offices. “These are times when you really see that you're adding something to Embrace's identity.”

The Power of Together
According to Sanne, what makes Embrace so special is the culture. “Everyone is open, approachable and willing to help each other.” She calls the hackathons an unforgettable experience: developing ideas together in a bubble and building for the future. According to her, the freedom you get as an employee is also unique. And perhaps her most important lesson: change is not scary, but rather an opportunity. “At Embrace, something always changes, so I've learned that changes don't have to be scary, it always works out.”
