Every month, we put one colleague in the spotlight. This time, it's Ruby Simon, consultant and project coordinator at Embrace. With a background in personnel management, law and communication, she has a broad education. She is now indispensable in Embrace's migration projects. In addition to her work, Ruby lives for family, travel, and good food. As if that weren't enough, she's also committed to getting more women into the IT world.
Always on the move
Free time is (almost) not included in Ruby's dictionary. “I prefer to just relax, but my weekends are often full of family: birthdays, weddings, everything will come by.” In addition, Ruby is the chairman of Let's Code, a foundation that provides free workshops such as Django Girls, to introduce women to programming. If you ask her about her bucket list, traveling comes first. From the wonders of the world to European cities, but she also likes to go back to her roots in Indonesia. That trip is also planned for next year, when she will go to Indonesia with the whole family. And last year, she discovered South Korea, partly thanks to her love for K-pop and K-dramas.

From LinkedIn post to Embrace
Six years ago, Ruby posted a message on LinkedIn, looking for work in IT. Preferably at the cutting edge of technology and communication. Embrace came by via a former colleague. “It was really fast, first a message, then an interview and before I knew it, I was a consultant.” She now coordinates migration projects and keeps an overview of hundreds of organizations that are making the switch to the new Embrace platform.
Projects, processes and personal growth
Managing migrations, making fit-gap analyses, new functionalities and maintaining customer contact are at the heart of Ruby's work. “I kind of hang around it to make sure everything goes well.” In addition to her technical knowledge, she developed strongly in project management. “I also used to be an event organizer, so organizing is part of me. Even though migrating 400 customers is a bit different than planning a wedding.” Nevertheless, she is very proud of the trust she has received to manage this huge job.

Colleagues make the difference
If you ask Ruby what makes Embrace so special, it's undoubtedly the colleagues. “You won't easily find a young club with smart ICT professionals and friendly people.” She also appreciates the facilities such as chair massages, shared lunches and many activities. From hackathons to drinks and even a boat party in Volendam. Those moments outside of work actually provide the connection. “Even during corona, I felt supported, with drinks packages and online quizzes. That feeling of being together is always heard at Embrace.” When Ruby looks to the future, she sees many opportunities, especially when all customers have switched. “Only then can we really continue to develop and create cool things.”
