This month, we are entering the world of Rob: Backend Software Engineer and Tech Lead. What drives him, what is his passion and what makes his work at Embrace so special?
From home shooting to road trips
Creativity plays a major role in his free time. Making music is one of his favorite activities, he used to play in bands, but nowadays it is limited to domestic recordings. “Nothing serious,” he says, “but still great fun.”
After an impressive road trip through the American Southwest, from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and Route 66, his bucket list wishes have been fulfilled for now. Nevertheless, he likes to stay on the road: traveling across Europe by car. The location doesn't really matter to him here, whether it's the Moselle, Lake Constance, London or 'just' Texel.
Complex problems, elegant solutions
His ideal day of work? Work quietly on a complex technical problem and solve it with an elegant software solution. At Embrace Customers, as Tech Lead, he focuses on the development of backend systems for customer contact centers. In addition to designing, quality control and code reviews, he prefers to focus on programming. Although the practice is often more dynamic, with support questions or unexpected failures, he appreciates that variety.
“Go live” moments you'll never forget
A moment that will stay with him forever? “Go live” with our software at the customer contact center of a large housing corporation. “When the phone lines open at 8:00 a.m., you ask yourself: does everything work? Have we really thought of everything?” He was on location several times, ready to solve technical problems immediately. It is a special experience to see how the software that has been worked on for months is really being put into use. In addition, he proudly looks back on joint successes, where he and his team overcame complex technical challenges to serve ever larger customer groups.
Growing through simplicity and innovation
With his background in MBO Systems Management and HBO Business Informatics, he entered the world of Software Engineering. With this knowledge, he came to Embrace about ten years ago. His journey at Embrace is about more than just technology. He learned that complex systems should be understandable for customers and colleagues, developing skills in software architecture, communication via visual diagrams, and collaboration between teams. Innovations such as Artificial Intelligence are a big part of his profession, something he looks at with curiosity and a critical eye. Every day offers new opportunities to learn, build and grow, exactly why he feels so at home at Embrace.
